About the Event
Do you feel bored, dull, restless, or uninspired? in need of a little boost of creative enthusiasm to help you identify possibilities and goals for 2022? desiring of more authentic, expressive, and enchanted experience?
can’t clearly see your way forward to your most beautiful life?
Maybe your imagination needs an overhaul!
As Mark Twain famously said, “you can’t depend on your eyes if your imagination is out of focus.”
Enrichment of the imagination is crucial for optimal childhood development (and closely associated with deep creativity and “genius”). But imagination isn’t just for children; it’s a tremendously powerful and undervalued faculty that we retain into adulthood. Just like a physical muscle, imagination grows weak and flaccid if it’s not used. And because imagination appears to be an important evolutionary survival tool - as well as an important source of empathy, effective communication, and personal fulfillment - we need its strength and vigor, personally and collectively. A strong imagination will make you happier, bring you closer to your center, and benefit the whole human family.
Join me for this 6-week deep-winter course to wake up, nourish, or hone your imagination. Wherever you are on the creativity spectrum, you will find this series useful. AND - you do NOT need to be “artsy” or “talented” or “creative” (though it’s also great if you identify with these labels). Everyone has an imagination (and - guess what? - it’s useful for far more than making art)!
What will we do? We’ll explore what imagination is and why it’s important, participate in a variety of creative activities (often involving words, colors, images, or sounds) to nourish our “wild” minds (otherwise known as child minds, mythic minds, right brains, etc.), listen to and discuss stories, practice playing with metaphor and feeling into poetry and music, explore the language of dreams, experience the power of myth and mystery (these words come from the same Greek root), connect with the inherent creative abundance of Nature, share and explore systems and practices that support strong imaginations, and celebrate the amazing and unique potential of our own personal imaginal worlds.
This ZOOM course will require you to have a few items on hand:
• a journal, pen or pencil
• a pad of art paper appropriate for use with your favorite media - 10" x 14" would be ideal (see next bullet)
• your preferred tools for playing with color - colored pencils, watercolors, markers, etc.
• glue stick
• a space and computer supportive of a satisfying ZOOM experience
• additional time (1-3 hours week) to do suggested “homework” and work on your chosen final personal project
