About the Event

As Mark Twain famously said, “you can’t depend on your eyes if your imagination is out of focus.”

Enrichment of the imagination is crucial for optimal childhood development and is closely associated with deep creativity and “genius” in adults. Imagination is a tremendously powerful and undervalued faculty that requires nourishment. Just like a physical muscle, imagination grows weak if it’s not used. And because imagination appears to be an important evolutionary survival tool - as well as an important foundation of empathy, effective communication, critical thinking, creativity, and personal fulfillment - we need its strength and vigor, personally and collectively. A strong imagination will make you happier, bring you closer to your center, and benefit the whole human family.

What will you do in this course? You’ll explore what imagination is and why it’s important, participate in a variety of creative activities (often involving words, colors, images, or sounds) to nourish your “wild” mind (otherwise known as child mind, mythic mind, right brain, etc.), listen to and discuss stories, practice playing with metaphor and feeling into poetry and music, explore the language of dreams, experience the power of myth and mystery (these words come from the same Greek root), connect with the inherent creative abundance of Nature, share and explore systems and practices that support strong imagination, and celebrate the amazing and unique potential of your own personal imaginal world.

This ZOOM course will require you to have a few items on hand:

• a journal, pen or pencil

• a pad of art paper appropriate for use with your favorite media - 10" x 14" would be ideal (see next bullet)

• your preferred tools for playing with color - colored pencils, watercolors, markers, etc.

• glue stick

• a space and computer supportive of a satisfying ZOOM experience

• additional time (1-3 hours week) to do suggested “homework” and work on your chosen final personal project

This is a six-session series. Dates will be Sunday mornings 10am to 12noon, Feb. 13 thru March 20
